Reading about critics whose comments have been taken out of context has inspired me. Here are some choice bits on the whole Terri Schiavo thing taken from David Cross’s recent IMterview with the blog defamer (language edited out).

  • I wish she’d shut the f*** up for once!
  • I’ll tell you where you can stick that goddamned feeding tube! All this bullshit is cutting into my M.J. trial time!

From the website:

Just as forced sterilization isn’t the answer for human population control, it’s not the solution for dogs. Instead, we should respect dogs’ rights as living beings by honoring their instincts and sexuality and provide them with safe, effective birth control.

But do they come in different colours or flavours?

…it was once common practice for studio publicity departments to concoct quotes that they would then attempt to get real critics to put their names to.

According to Carl Bialik from Gelf Magazine all movie studios need is a string of words that when put together make a movie sound good. As in taken out of context. An example from Bride and Prejudice:

  • Carrie Rickey, Philadelphia Inquirer: “It’s Pure Pleasure! I watched it with an ear-to-ear grin throughout.”
  • Actual line: “Bride very well may be the first not-so-great film since Viva Las Vegas that I watched with an ear-to-ear grin throughout. It’s pure pleasure.

It seems obvious that reviewers must be in on this and as such willingly choose to write reviews that can be taken out of context. Here is my review of bad reviewers: “You guys suck.” Try and spin that into gold!

The irrationality which is tired it sees and cu “the season when it will come there is a water service which will not run,”

Of course, and that is just the title of the article. Writen in Naver news (from Korea) and then translated to english via bablefilsh, what barry bonds says about his knee and the desk and everything makes a little more sense. But not really. Take this quote:

“when it recovers completely it is not known from extra prize. Will be next year when is season middle and there is not a possibility which it will know. Currently the line it is not unreasonable and not to be slowly it is a thought which will watch a lapse and “” me 20 it is strong but 30 it is strong but 40 where is not it counted and it revealed “

Also, don’t hesitate to catch this fantastic article: Before the female farming tool Korea and Japan ` it was quite, ‘. I’m sure it was.

I was using a partition manager program to merge two partitions. At the very end of the process I get an error, “Unable to continue.” How very nice. The NTFS master file table got munged up allowing me to view files, but not access them = rage. Now I know exactly what I lost because I can see the lists of files, but when I open them they are garbage. A couple of tools brought back some of the data (some jpgs mostly), but everything else was blenderized. So todays PSA is:

Back up your stuff!

Another stupid law, this time in my backyard! I guess stupid politicians are everywhere. If passed into law this bill would address, “higher prices for clothes, shoes, hair cuts and other services.”

I’m all for fairness, but shouldn’t the market determine pricing? If femals feel they get gouged at shop X, then don’t shop there any more. The way I understand capitalism is that the price of a good or service is determined by how much people would be willing to pay for it. I know I’m not willing to pay more for fancy dry skin creme. I buy the cheap stuff, that doesn’t smell bad. In general, the guy ‘themed’ cremes are cheaper. Perhaps this is because guys don’t buy the expensive skin cremes ergo, the price of male themed skin cremes is cheaper. Would this bill force the price of skin creme for men higher? The humanity!

Besides, on average doesn’t a womens haircut require more work and skill than a mans?

Is Gender-Based Pricing Fair?

From this story by Eric Duhatschek in the GlobeandMail:

In a prepared statement, Goodenow summarized the negotiating process in a single paragraph:

“Last week, Gary (Bettman, the NHL commissioner) asked me how to resume discussions for a new CBA. I told Gary to bring forward any proposal that he believed would be of interest to the players. Today, Gary gave us two salary cap proposals. Both proposals were very similar to the ones that we previously rejected several times. We will be determining our next steps and responding at the appropriate time.”
