This monkey madness brought to you by, Shimla India. Whats an authority to do when monkeys become criminals stealing from children and tourists? Plant more trees in the forest in hopes that the gangs move out? Or… sterilize the population!? Why its door number two! But why!?

Besides damaging crops, biting children and the occasional drunken sprees, the monkeys are also blamed by the traffic police for causing at least three car crashes as they jumped onto roads suddenly, catching the unsuspecting motorists unaware on the narrow, winding and dangerous hilly roads.

But how!? There are 3 options, surgery, immunization, and lasers, “…which is more safe and best.”

Random quote with author commentary:

… 80 percent [ of monkeys in Himachal Pradesh] live in towns, suburbs and villages in the state.

— AND THIS IS PROGRESS?!!!

MaxPower: Tarpon

These rednecks find a big ass maco shark chewing down on a tarpon. Its an 8 minute video, of which the last minute is the best. All the random redneck sounds are (literally) a hoot.

G’on, Jeremy, POKE HIM! Get’im! Go’on POKE THAT BITCH!

Remember, back in the day, we’d sit on the couch in sunnydale, cooking BBQ and drinking beers before going out for the evening? Besides, shark vs lion, this was one of them: Tiger vs. Croc. Its a movie. And one of them wins.

Our day started at 4:45am, if only we could stay awake past 8am. Last night, I fell asleep to Kirk reading back the day’s journal entry to me, and then he shortly followed. Hence 4:45 am. Alas… We laid in bed with our eyes closed but no more sleep was in store, so at 7am we got up and started to plan our day. We needed to get Vietnam visas in Bangkok so that we could begin our journey, as you can not obtain them in the northern Thailand town where we are next headed or in Laos. We could also get these visas in Chiang Mai but we decided to skip the tourist ridden city and head to Nong Khai instead as there was more of Thailand’s natural beauty to see and a better entrance into Laos. » Read the rest of the entry..

These images are “macro-focused pictures of insects walking on leaves and twigs, using natural light, without a tripod.”

Very impressive, I wonder how he did it? How does it keep so still without a tripod? What do the insects think?

Link care of boingboing?

For our blog, MaxPower, we needed to have certain articles ’stay at the top’ longer than others. We found that the stuff we wrote and really liked was getting bogged down and indistinguishable from the other stuff. For example, on this blog we write about everything, but focus on our travel experiences. The question became, how can we focus our front page to feature these experiances, but not loose all the other stuff we have too? This is what we came up with: » Read the rest of the entry..

We stayed up until 3am learning Thai from mp3. Basically, we learned how to say, “Do you speak English.” We also learned how to say ‘I speak English”, although we wondered when we would ever need this sentence. Also, when a man speaks he always ends his sentences with the word’Krap’. Its a good way to end sentences, especially when one knows he has screwed up the language. » Read the rest of the entry..

Earlier, maxpower brought you the dangers of bread. Scary as it may seem, bread has a deadly companion, water. Thats right, water is deadly:

A scientific survey recently concluded that every creature on earth contains Water, and almost every creature imbibes more during its life. Moreover, every animal that has ever ingested this substance has invariably tried to get more. Organisms unable to get more Water show signs of withdrawal, or “dehydration,” and eventually die. Organisms that ingest more Water inevitably die anyway. Aside from the biological considerations, remember that Water is composed of Hydrogen and Oxygen, which are used together as rocket fuel. Enough cannot be said about the volatile nature of this chemical.

Can you imagine if bread and water ever teamed up? The consequences could be diabolical! More on water:

How is Water synthesized?
The simplest synthesis is as follows:

* Fill a pot from the kitchen tap.
* Boil for fifteen minutes.
* The Water is now suitable for ingestion.

You can get more on the dangers of water, perhaps one of the earliest warning pages on the internet (1994).
