I remember when I first saw this video. It was an epiphiy, it was as if I suddenly understood the nature of the universe and my place in it. Well, that thought passed, but I did mannage to hang on to the concept of the internet. If people could share video’s of monkeys freely over the internet…. think of the power! I know I’m not alone in this, for when I saw Austin Powers watching this movie, I could see he had the same thoughts. Damn Mike meyers took my ideas… bravo. Rant over. Enjoy!

The monkey situation is still tense in New Delhi. Its all fine and dandy when they pick on the underprivileged. But when they show a total disregard for the law and pick on the lawyers… well then…. this means war:

The court gave city authorities one month to get rid of the monkeys, which have been harassing people at Tis Hazari — the largest law complex in Asia, with 162 courts. The order came after a petitioner complained the monkeys were attacking lawyers and their clients and snatching their food, the BBC reported.

Monkey catchers have been reluctant to sign on for the job because…

a [former] monkey catcher hired by the municipality was mauled during an operation and needed 72 stitches.

Yes what could possibly be added to this story? Perhaps that the expanding human footprint is reducing the natural habitat of the monkey. In effect, we are waging war on them. If their best retaliation is to steal lawyers lunches, then I wholeheartedly support our new monkey overlords.

Monkeys are Fan-tastic. Monkey stories are even better. This one, written by one Ray Quintanilla (seemingly an aspiring writer) is awesome! Lyrical prose, complex plots and sub-plots, character development, its all there. And true!

Judicously quoted classic lines from the article: “Fear is turning to outrage,” “It would be very bad if these monkeys got to San Juan,” and perhaps the scariest of all, “fertile and aggressive,” how can you not read this Monkey story?

Excerpt:

“At first we all thought it was cute,” said Vasquez, 60. “Then it started tipping over all of my plants in the balcony and growling at me.”

When she called police, authorities from the island’s natural-resource department showed up wearing white body suits and masks to protect themselves. “That scared me even more,” she said.

This monkey madness brought to you by, Shimla India. Whats an authority to do when monkeys become criminals stealing from children and tourists? Plant more trees in the forest in hopes that the gangs move out? Or… sterilize the population!? Why its door number two! But why!?

Besides damaging crops, biting children and the occasional drunken sprees, the monkeys are also blamed by the traffic police for causing at least three car crashes as they jumped onto roads suddenly, catching the unsuspecting motorists unaware on the narrow, winding and dangerous hilly roads.

But how!? There are 3 options, surgery, immunization, and lasers, “…which is more safe and best.”

Random quote with author commentary:

… 80 percent [ of monkeys in Himachal Pradesh] live in towns, suburbs and villages in the state.

— AND THIS IS PROGRESS?!!!

I like monkey news. I find it funny. I also find it interesting that the author is basically listing facts, one sentance at a time. Its almost as if a monkey wrote it. » Read the rest of the entry..

In response to the Japan Monkey Center publishing the crushing news of Buenos’s untimely passing, I have written her a eulogy.

We lost Buenos only days ago, but we have missed her for a long time. We have missed her kindly presence, that reassuring screech/ hoot, and the happy ending we had wished for her. It has been two months since she said her own farewell; yet it is still very sad and hard to let her go. Buenos belongs to the ages now, but we preferred it when she belonged to the Japan Monkey Center.

In a life of good fortune, she valued above all the gracious gift of her mate, ‘young male monkey’. During her career, Buenos passed through a thousand crowded places; but there was only one person, she said, who could make her lonely by just leaving the room — young male monkey.
