Feed Standard

Arguably old news in today’s link-blogging blogosphere, but I could think of no better way to publicize my RSS feed for free icons than to promote the feed icons implemented by Mat Brett to establish a standard. After the announcement by the Microsoft RSS Team to adopt the firefox feed icon and the subsequent post by the founder/leader of the Mozilla QA and Testing program about the current state of affairs of feed icons, Matt saw an opportunity. A new feed icon standard needed to be established.

I was pretty excited myself, when I read [those two posts]. Partly because there is a chance we might seen an end to those horrid XML and RSS buttons. But mostly because Microsoft is doing the right thing. [Microsoft] realize[d] Mozilla has already established an identity for syndicated content through Firefox and listened to what users had to say about their proposed icons. [source]

Visit the webpage dedicated to these icons where you can download photoshop files to modify the colour scheme the feed icon you would like to use (I recommend just adjusting the Hue under Image - Adjustments - Hue / Saturation).

About my free icon feed:

From time to time I update the list of gpl’d, lgpl’d, and CC’d (or otherwise free to use) free icons available here. Instead of having people check back in to see if the page has been updated, I will post a short blurb about the latest free icons added. These short blurbs will use the following feed which you can easily subscribe to via bloglines or feedburner or even your own hosted Gregarius type solution (the last of which I highly recommend).
