Goalie HeroIntroducing Sawchuk, a scheme for the K2 theme for Wordpress. Sawchuk is a theme loosely based on the style of webreakstuff.com, you can view the scheme in action right now, simply by roaming around maxpower.ca. There are no modifications to the K2 core, so all you need do is upload the CSS file and associated directory and you are ready to go.

To Install: upload chosen scheme to the styles dir. in your K2 dir. in the Themes dir. otherwise known as themes>k2xxx>styles> In this folder.

Activating A Scheme
: Go to the Presentation tab, then to the K2 Options SubTab, and select the scheme that you’ve chosen using the K2 Scheme drop down menu. Click the Update Options button on the bottom of the page.

Now compliant with K2 V0.9

Download the Sawchuk Scheme v0.5

Using the styles featured for this theme:

Go to the Test Style Post and view all the things that Sawchuk for K2 can do. In each case, the example style contains the needed text to implement the style in your post. So for example, in order to create the “Now compliant with K2 v0.9″ message above the code would be:
[css]

Now compliant with K2 V0.9

[/css]

Updates will be made as they happen with a complete v1.0 release of the K2 theme. Also, the current version does not include the Navigation Tabs shown in the sidebar as it requires modifying the Sidebar code.

If you use and like this theme, spread the word, bookmark it, tell your friends. Just somewhere on your site say that you got
this from maxpower.ca. Heck, here is some HTML you can cut and paste:
<a href="http://www.maxpower.ca/sawchuk/" title="Maxpower: Sawchuk for K2" />
Sawchuk Scheme at Maxpower</a>

Note that there are a few custom classes included with this scheme to create alerts, callouts, infoblurbs, ‘other’, and downloads. The download link above is an example of the download class. The text in blue (this whole paragraph) is an infoblurb. Root around in the css and visit the test style post to see whats going on.

This is a callout. Please also checkout the Sawchuk wallpaper. Its classy.

Terry Sawchuk
About Terrance Gordon Sawchuk. [via]
Born December 28, 1929, Winnipeg, Canada, died May 31, 1970, New York, United States

Considered by many to be the greatest goaltender to ever play the game of hockey, Terry Sawchuk grew up in a working class neighbourhood, playing hockey on an outdoor rink. Nicknamed “Uke” because of his Ukrainian ancestry, Sawchuk began his professional career at age 17, winning rookie-of-the-year honors in the United States Hockey League. He won rookie-of-the-year honors again after being promoted to the Indianapolis Capitals of the American Hockey League. Called up to the Detroit Red Wings of the National Hockey League (NHL) for the 1950-51 season, he won the Calder Trophy as the league’s top rookie, making him the first player to win the rookie-of-the-year award in three different professional leagues.

In 1952, Terry Sawchuk led the Detroit Red Wings to the Stanley Cup in the minimum eight games of two best-of-seven series during which he recorded four shutouts and allowed only five goals. In each of his first five years in the NHL, he led the league in wins and was named to the All-Star team. In 1955, he was traded to the Boston Bruins where he had difficulty adjusting. During the 1956-57 season he retired from the game, succumbing to severe stress. However, the following year he returned to play after being traded back to Detroit. He was traded again in 1964, this time to the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he won another Vezina Trophy in 1965 and helped the Leafs win the 1967 Stanley Cup.

Sawchuk’s ability to play despite painful injuries, a valuable asset in the days before goalies wore protective facemasks, was shown early in his life. A neglected injury he received while playing a friendly rugby match when he was 12 was discovered two years later to have been a broken arm that had healed poorly, leaving Sawchuk with one arm two inches shorter than the other. In his professional hockey career, Sawchuk played for more than a dozen years without a mask and received over 400 stitches to his face.

He struggled with untreated depression, a condition that often affected his conduct. An alcohol-induced shoving match with his New York Rangers teammate Ron Stewart left Sawchuk with internal injuries that led to his death a few weeks later. Sawchuk was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Pontiac, Michigan. Stewart was cleared of any wrongdoing in the incident.

Terry Sawchuk finished his hockey career with 447 wins, a record that stood for thirty years, and his career record of 103 shutouts remains unsurpassed. In 1971 Sawchuk was posthumously elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame and awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy for his contribution to hockey in the United States. In 1997, the book Shutout: The Legend of Terry Sawchuk by sports author Brian Kendall, was published. In 2001, he was honored with his image on a Canadian postage stamp. His number 1 was also retired by the Detroit Red Wings.

Sawchuk was wild! That’s when hockey was hockey. Regarding the K2 theme, I can’t dl it as I’m getting a message telling me that I’m not a MaxPower member.

Can it be listed? A: Absolutely… in order to add your site I need the complete url with the story link and title as template to start off from. This allows me to correctly format the new link. Feel free to contact me. Q: The link to site XXX stopped working! Why? A: From time to time I expect sites like digg and delicious to alter the way they work. You should too. When I become aware of a change on their side I will fix it on mine. You can help by sending me the complete url with the story link and title as template so I can correctly format the new link. Q: Can I change around the order that the sites are listed? A: As of version 0.2 you cannot. I tried to place the sites in order of popularity, but I may be wrong. Q: I noticed that whenever sites are submitted to Fark, they fall into the Misc category. Can I change this? A: Absoutely… although I am just a hack, I did think of this situation. Unfortuneatly, as of V2.0, you must go into the plugin and edit one variable. The default setting is ‘Misc’ — other examples include: Business, Game, News, Politics, Sports, Science/Technology, Website, and Weird News. Examples are shown within the plugin, just use a text editor to make the switch [I recommend PSPad] Q: Are you some kind of PHP guru? A: Absoutely… not! I am a hack at best. One thing I can do well is follow patterns. There are a lot of patterns in PHP. You might be interested in some of the other things I have written for wordpress, namely The Dynamic Sticky and the Sawchuk Scheme for K2 [still in heavy development] Q: Do you have more features planned? A: Absoutely… I am open to suggestions. Drop me a line or leave a comment. Q: Why Sociable? A: A ’sociable’ is analgous to having a party. A sociable is also what one might yell at a party/ bar on the east coast of Canada in order to get all his or her friends to raise their glass, yell “sociable!!!!” and then take a few slugs. You can also do this when being simply around easterners too. Try it with your friends, but do you really need an excuse to bring the glass to your lips? Changelog [...]

You mean you’re working on the tabs in the sidebar, right? I tried your scheme, but it doesn’t show my horizontal pages menu on top. Al I see is “blog” which is the first tab, not the other tabs. Maybe I did something wrong, don’t know. Hope it gonna be all right, because your theme is very good for real reading.

    Hi,

I tried to mail you and send you a screenshot of my crippled Sawchuk Scheme, but the hostfix program delivered my mail back. Maybe you filled in an mail address on my mailform that is no longer in use? I will copy and paste what I said in my mail:

    Hi MaxPower,

Thanks for contacting me. I send you a screenshot in Word. It’s a shot on an Opera browser, though IE6/7 give the same results. As
you can see is that the menu only shows BLOG. Not ABOUT, BOOKS, CONTACT, ARCHIVES, like on my regular K2. Maybe I did something
wrong, since I am into code stuff and all that. What I did is unzip the file and save in K2/styles. When opening up my styles file I
    see two extra files:

    for hemingway/sawchuk

    sawchuk (apart)

When going to admin?k2 options I see:

no scheme (that’s what I am running now)

    sample/sample.css

    vader/vader.css

    forhemingway/sawchuk_hemingway.css

I click on that last one, that’s what I do.

I am afraid I do something wrong, maybe uploading some file to a wrong folder.

I now see that there is a css-file, I should upload that one and also recent comments…

    Remember, I am a newbee.

Should I succeed I will let you know

    Cheers,

    Al

p/s I uploaded that sawchuk_hemingway.css into my folder, but that does not work. Should I copy and paste the code in the style sheet? If so, where?

Al, please download the file again. I had inadvertantly uploaded a bunch of development files instead of the scheme you (and others needed). I don’t know why your mail didn’t get to me… maybe I did fill in the wrong value? Try the latest dl and get back to me.

    Hallo again,

Yes, it works! At first I forgot to disable the K2 Picture Upload Plugin, so everything got twisted up. After disabled that I finally saw your Sawchuk Scheme appearing. I have it off right now, since I need to make myself a logo, hat is: asking my brother to make one for me, cos I am not good at that, like making my own theme, I got no time to learn all that, I should be writing. Anyway, thanks for your scheme and support!

  18. The only thing that would make this WAY cooler is to change the post.php page so that all the different class options above where visually representable buttons in the edit bar (just like blockquote)…

    Cheers.

  22. Hi,
I love ur scheme and tried to use it. Please assume that I am totally new to this so nothing seems easy to me.
I loved this thing called infoblurb. How do I implement it in my blog? I mean I understood that it is part of the scheme, but where do I put which code so that I can see it on my blog??? (I hope what I am asking it’s clear).

I also saw at another part of your page where there is the Head Keywords Plungin that when I click on the logo of the head the whole site fades out and the image of the logo is the only thing that is clearly seen.

    How do u do this???

Thanks for the replies in advance

  42. Hey I’m using your theme for K2 0.9.6. Anyways, I’ve been wanting to upgrade to WordPress 2.3 but K2 0.9.6 would have problems, that’s why they made K2 Release Candidate 3, but I’m pretty sure your theme wont work on it as they’ve changed some stuff. I’m just wondering if you’d be willing to ‘update’ your theme for that particular version. I really love your theme, and it looks like you’ve updated the one you use on your site because you’re using WordPress 2.3, so I figure it wouldn’t be much complicated of a task as you say that Sawchuck is just a toned down version of the theme you run here. Anyways, I’m sure many people would appreciate it. I’d promote your theme on my site, I think it’s the best for K2.

  43. Dear Fans,

I am related to Terry Sawchuk and I would like to be able to add his html code to my website, and some pics.

If any of you fans out there, can help me with this, it would be greatly appreciated.

I grew up as a fosterchild and I played goalie and if my parents had more caring, they would of recognized that I was the next generation of the Sawchuk family as a netminder.

    Thanks for your support.
