Our overnight train trip was very easy. The swede accross from us was talkative, although hard to understand due to his way of speaking low and mumbling while barely moving his lips. Sleeping was easy, I was out by 10, heather an hour later so she says. She had the upper bunk and I the lower. We slept with our packs to prevent theft of which there was none.

In the morning we awoke to steamy rice paddies and grasses flying by our window. Every once and awhile we would pass a town or city. The train seemed to always run on the outside of these places so all we saw was the more ugly side of things. Nonetheless, the country was pretty. We arrived at about 9:45 into Nong Khai, caught a TukTuk to our Hostel, Mut-Mee. It has a website if you want to look it up. Run by an eccentric english guy (reminds me of Freddie Mercury of Queen, same accent) it is quite nice.

Our room is right on the Mekhong River and looks out over to Laos. The river is very wide, 1km or more I would say. The rest of the day we caught up on sleep, took a walk throug the river front market, and had their (Mut Mee) fantastic food. A very good spicy chicken soup Tom Yam, and a great green curry. The food is definatly a reason to stay here longer. The evening was spent reading and lounging by the river.
